Waist-high view
Training your eyes to look to see, and to notice is challenging.
Seeing things from another’s perspective is even harder.
What do kids notice? More often than not, it’s completely surprising.
Michelle Obama describes this beautifully in her memoir, Becoming. Her then eight-year-old daughter wrote in a school essay that, "I went to Rome and I met the Pope. He was missing part of his thumb."
“Her view of history was, at that point, waist-high.”
Looking at the world at this height can lead to all sorts of discoveries and perspectives.
A camera makes it easy to see things from different perspectives.
Check out these two photos taken by a mum and her daughter on holiday in Glenelg, South Australia.
Which one do you reckon was taken by a mother? And which by her eight-year-old daughter?
Have a guess in the comments below. And say why.
The first person to guess correctly and offer the most interesting reasons** wins a free online facilitation mentoring session with me.
Obama says she doesn’t remember anything about the Pope’s thumb and we don’t learn what she noticed about the Pope.
It would have been fascinating to see what photo she and her daughter would have taken, at the same time.
** my call entirely! 😊
